Oops! Malaysian Importer's Slip-up with Israeli Dates - Company in Apology Mode!

Turns out the import of Israel dates to Malaysia is merely a mistake, according to Matahari Bhd Sdn.

Matahari Sdn Bhd stated, the dates arrived via import from their supplier in Greece in June 2022, within a shipment containing various goods and incorrectly labeled during repackaging.

“Matahari Sdn Bhd would like to apologize to our partners and customers, as well as to our staff who have been impacted by the incident.

“Ignorantly and, in hindsight, without being sensitive to the issue, we then labeled the product, including listing Israel as the origin.

“We only realized the mistake and its implications when it was brought up as an issue on social media and we were contacted for comment on Monday, March 11. We immediately contacted our resellers and recalled the product.

“We share the concerns of our fellow Malaysians, particularly those of the Muslim communities, and would like to affirm that we do not support Israel in any way,” Matahari Sdn Bhd said via a statement.

In the same as statement, the company denied of having direct dealing with Israel, and did not intentionally order the dates.

On March 13, customs authorities confiscated 73 packs of ‘Organic Jumbo Medjool Dates’ believed to be from Israel, in raids across Petaling Jaya and Klang.

Yesterday in Parliament, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali vowed to take action against violators of the Trade Description Act 2011 for deceiving consumers.
