In a notable accolade, Kuala Lumpur’s lively Chinatown earns a place in Time Out Magazine’s esteemed compilation of the globe’s 30 most coolest streets, claiming the sixth spot.
This acknowledgment underscores its undeniable charm on the world stage.
Why did Petaling Street, fondly called Chinatown, made the list?
Well, Petaling Street stood out as Kuala Lumpur’s historical hub, it was once the dwelling place of the city’s pioneering Chinese inhabitants during the nineteenth century. Ancient temples blend seamlessly with trendy dining venues within colonial-era shophouses, which add to the city’s allure.
“Petaling Street may be one of the city’s oldest streets, but it is experiencing a renaissance, with the juxtaposition of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest temples rubbing shoulders with the newest drinking and dining spots,” Time Out wrote in an article.
Notable mentions in the article included trendy eateries such as Chocha Foodstore, Botakliquor Bar, and the whimsical Small Shifting Space, serving up irresistible local cuisine.
Nominating the streets was a lively affair according to Time Out Magazine’s travel editor, Grace Beard, it involved Time Out’s editors and writers voting for the most vibrant streets in their cities, criteria ranged from enticing food to vibrant nightlife and rich cultural experiences.
“You only really get to know a city when you veer down its side streets, and Time Out’s list of the World’s Coolest Streets celebrates the avenues, thoroughfares, backstreets and boulevards where local life really thrives,” said Grace Beard, as reported by Time Out.
The winner of Time Out’s list of the coolest streets in the World is High Street in Melbourne, Australia.
