Pearly-Thinaah unjustly criticised over badminton court attire

Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, the top women’s doubles team for the Paris 2024 Olympics, already distressed over their defeat in the bronze medal match, were hit with unjust criticism from netizen Asmira Hashi over their court attire.

Asmira Hashi, a dedicated PAS supporter, proposed that the women’s badminton team be required to wear attire that covers the aurat, in line with Islamic principles.

“May Malaysia make attire that covers the aurat mandatory for our national shuttlers; if they refuse, just stripe their citizenship for insulting Islam,” she said in a Facebook post.

Aurat refers to the body parts that, according to Islamic principles, must remain covered.

Many netizens, unhappy with her post, took to Facebook to voice their dissatisfaction.

“Why are you meddling in non-Muslim affairs?” a Facebook user named Fikri Othman said.

“Your religion is your business, and my religion is mine.

“Your clothing is your choice, and my clothing is mine.

“Remember! Malaysia is not an Islamic country.

“We live with diversity. You take care of your religion, and I’ll take care of mine.

“Noted! What a hypocrite!” said a Facebook user named Erven Ugik.

A photo of two-time Olympic medallist Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg in a swimsuit, which had previously sparked criticism from netizens in 2019 recently resurfaced.

A netizens shamming Pandelela for her choice of swimsuit.

“You are not ashamed to wear something like this?” said a Facebook user named Farah Idayu.
