PAS Denies Aid to Committee Member; Penang DAP Chairman Steps In

PAS Permatang Pauh committee member, known as Pak Rusli, sought financial aid from Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong to fund his daughter's education after his own party refused to lend a helping hand.

She wanted to study technology management at UTeM.

His daughter mentioned that he had sought assistance from his party, but none was provided.

In response, Sim who is also Bukit Mertajam MP accepted her into his "anak angkat" program where she will receive a monthly allowance until she graduates from university.

“It's true that my father told the YB that he was willing to set aside his pride because PAS claimed they have no funds. He reached out for help, but they completely ignored him. He did it for my sake, he didn't care about anything else.

“I don’t get involved in my father's political affairs; he knows I have different views. But right now, I can see he’s really disappointed. He feels like he’s being sidelined. My father used to ride his bicycle to campaign,” she said in a social media post.

Pak Rusli actions drew ire from PAS supporters.

Shortly after news of him seeking help from Sim went viral, Keleb Peyokong PAS Malaysia posted an unflattering picture of Pak Rusli.

However, most netizens voiced their support for Sim and shared words of encouragement for Pak Rusli and his daughter.

“Tears were shed. I hope the younger sibling succeeds and always remembers the sacrifices of their parents and the YB. Stay focused on your studies. Thank you, YB, for always making things easier for those in need,” said a TikTok user named It's ME.

"Alhamdulillah... just because they are of a different race doesn’t mean they lack compassion," said a Facebook user named HasLizzA.
