A baby in Johor almost died of severe brain haemorrhage and brain hypoxia and the mother, Wendy Foo blamed the nanny.
Foo and her husband left the child in the nanny's hands on September 1 and requested that the babysitter provide daily updates on their baby.
On the fateful day (Sept 4), the nanny referred to as Goh reported the baby cried in the middle of night and drank milk at 6:30am but did not finish it.
They began to suspect something was wrong when they contacted the nanny around noon to inquire about the baby's condition.
Foo found out that her baby still didn't drink any milk, a strange phenomenon that her husband thought Goh should be concerned about considering she had been babysitting for years.
The nanny dismissed her concerns and attributed the baby's lack of appetite to rain.
Later that day, Foo’s baby became sick, and the nanny sent the baby to the nearby polyclinic.
Foo said: “Once she met the doctor, the doctor immediately asked the nanny to call the baby's parents, the doctor told my husband that our child was no longer active and must be sent to the hospital immediately.”
Even though the baby was in a dire situation, the nanny insisted that the baby be sent home first, before being sent to hospital, fortunately, she was stopped by the doctor.
Foo said their family members quickly took her baby to the nearest hospital since Foo and her husband were working in Singapore at the time.
The baby was quickly taken from Goh and brought to the closest hospital in the emergency bay.
“While in the hospital, the baby didn't respond at all when she was inserted with needles, and her eyes slanted to one sight, the baby was quickly taken for a CT scan," Foo said.
Tests revealed that the baby suffered from severe bleeding in the brain, oxygen deficiency and part of her brain cell being damaged.
Doctor told Foo and her husband that they have to equip a breathalyzer on the baby who can't breathe on her own.
The baby was taken into the ICU ward for five days.
She felt as though her world had ended. She was devastated, unable to believe that such misfortune would befall her baby who was not even three months old.
Fortunately, the doctor was able to save her baby from the jaws of death.
“Although my baby was saved, the severe brain haemorrhage robbed her of the ability to see the beautiful world.
“We also let the doctor perform an MRI scan, and the doctor said because the brain damage is extensive, they must be mentally prepared that the baby will be unable to sit, walk, stand, or even take care of herself and probably will be an OKU,” Foo said.
A mother from a Facebook group for nannies introduced Goh to Foo and her husband.
The nanny in question is currently on bail.
“The heartless and unremorseful nanny is still on the loose and is now spending her day watching live shopping broadcast.
“We reported the incident to the police, but after paying RM10,000 bail, she is now watching live broadcasts at home.
“She even has the audacity to hire a lawyer to avoid going to prison,” she said.
Foo said she isn't the only victim, there are other parents whose children fell to misfortune under the nanny’s care.
She said by sharing her story she hopes no other parents will have to endure the suffering she went through.
“We wish all children in the world to be free from harm and able to grow without facing any harm or disaster.
“I hope the keyboard warriors will be merciful, I do not need your criticism,” she said via a Facebook post.
